Medical Tips for Travellers

If you buy travel insurance make sure your insurance policy are cover enough for medical facilities. Some of the medical tips may be will help travelers during holiday are listed below :

> Ask your doctor about traveling precautions. Make a list of all the medicines and their salt compositions (you won't find the same brand name here) needed for your recent or recurring ailments, allergies etc.

> Carry enough pills, dosages, and emergency medicines. Remember, you might need a prescription to buy them in the USA. Without recognized prescription you can't get medicine except basic medicines for cough, cold, fever, head ache etc.

>Do you Wear spectacles? then note the specifications of your lenses. It is advisable to carry a backup pair with you. Even if you wear contact lenses, carry a pair of glasses. Keep all the needed eye drops and ointments.

> If you need to take medications that contain narcotic drugs or are addictive, get a doctor's certificate for it. To ensure you do not violate the laws of the country you are visiting in any way, consult the embassy or consulate of those countries beforehand.

> It is also advisable to get a thorough check up done before traveling.

> People with some restrictive food diet .: Diabetic, gastric patients etc. must carry some food items like fruits etc. Although, food and perishable items are not always allowed during flight travel.

> During take-off and landing, the cabin pressure changes which may cause ear blocking and ear pain. This may be relieved by chewing gum, or by opening your mouth widely as if you were yawning. Carry candies to chew and some cotton balls to stuff your ears, as it is not provided in most of the international flights.

> If you are traveling with a severe cold, then this pain will get worse. In such case carry some nasal drops, or medicine for cold. Consult a doctor, in case you have a problem.

> Some people have problems like vomiting sensation, nausea, dizziness, pain in ears etc. Hence ask your doctor about the required medicines, prior to traveling.

Ten tips For Decide Buying Travel Insurance

The following tips can help you determine what kind of travel coverage, if any, is right for you.

1. Familiarize yourself with what’s out there. Travel insurance can include trip cancellation, trip interruption, accidental death or dismemberment, medical and dental care, transportation to medical facilities, loss of luggage or personal possessions and protection against the bankruptcy or default of your cruise line or tour operator.

2. Determine whether you’re already covered. Many homeowners’ and renters’ policies provide coverage for theft and other losses away from home. Your medical and auto insurance may be valid in other countries. Your life insurance policy should cover you and your family while you travel. And airlines must reimburse you if they lose your bags.

3. Remember your credit cards and auto club membership. Check to see what travel protection you have from those little plastic cards in your wallet. The American Express Platinum Card is especially good about giving generous accidental death and dismemberment coverage, insurance for car rental loss and damage, and extra lost baggage protection.

4. Buy through a third-party insurer. Travel agents, tour operators and cruise lines sell travel insurance, but your safest bet is to obtain coverage through an established insurance company. This way your coverage won’t go up in smoke if your travel company goes bankrupt. You can compare rates at InsureMyTrip.com.

5. Ask the right questions. As you shop around, ask insurers: What disasters are covered? What restrictions apply? What type of assistance does the insurance company give in the event of a medical emergency or other serious problem? How does the reimbursement get determined?

6. Know the drill with trip-cancellation coverage. Here’s the biggest reason you may not need it: Even in the case of natural disasters and other dramatic events beyond a travel provider’s control, you’re likely to get a refund if your trip gets completely canceled on you.

7. Avoid flight insurance sold in vending machines. Have you ever spotted such offers in airports? They’re situated there to play on people’s fear of flying, but remember: The least expensive way to insure your life is through a term life insurance policy, which you may already have. And your credit card may provide such coverage as well.

8. Understand cancellation waivers. Many cruise and tour operators offer these waivers for about $40 to $60 as coverage in case you have to cancel your trip. While the waivers provide some protection, they often have many restrictions and are not regulated.

9. Consider extra coverage. If you must travel with expensive electronic equipment, sporting gear or jewelry, you could consider a floater for your existing homeowners’ or renters’ policy. This could be a relatively low-cost way to insure those items.

10. Recognize the value of emergency medical assistance coverage. This would cover you if you must be airlifted off a mountain, receive prolonged treatment in a foreign hospital or be flown home because of serious sickness or injury. Before you buy, find out whether your health insurer would cover you overseas and pay for your flight home if an emergency strikes. If you have Medicare, this coverage could be valuable because you’re probably not covered outside the United States.

Road Traffic Accidents Legal Proceedings

By Julian Hall

Claims Master Group

Even though there have been advancements in road and car safety, road traffic accidents are still common place in our society. Unfortunately, statistics show that most people will be involved in a serious road traffic accident at least once in their lifetime.

We will discuss when such accidents may lead to legal proceedings. If you are involved in a car accident, you should speak to a legal expert who can guide you through the minefield of the legal system and help you to get the compensation you deserve. You may like to get in touch with our advisors on 08000 71 22 71 or click our road traffic accident claims form to get started.

Legal Proceedings After A Road Traffic Accident

Not all road traffic accidents lead to legal proceedings, however if there are no serious injuries, you may be entitled to recover damages for property and other expenses from the other drivers insurance company. The likelihood of legal proceedings will usually rest on the quantum, or the amount of financial damage which has ensued from the accident.

What Causes Road Traffic Accidents?

There are many possible causes for road traffic accidents which are discussed below:

Bad Driving- This is by far the greatest cause of most road traffic accidents. Simple errors in judgement and other mishaps all add up to common poor driving habits such as ignoring traffic signals, speeding, not giving way at the correct times, tailgating and mobile phone usage.

Lack Of Attention- Drivers are oftentimes distracted and can increase the chance of a road traffic accidents. Whether from outside of the car or inside the car its something which we must all become more aware of. Reading maps or newspapers(!), changing CD's or the radio station, fixing your appearance in the vanity mirror or trying to comfort an upset child are all distractions which can cause road traffic accidents.

Under The Influence- Accidents on the road are unfortunately due to the impaired ability of the driver to concentrate and put both himself and other road users at risk.

Weather Conditions - Bad weather, rain, icy roads, floods all contribute to poor driving conditions from which an accident can occur by impairing visibility. Slippery road surfaces require the driver to take extra care whist behind the wheel. Motorists need to take into consideration these weather conditions whist on the road to avoid causing an accident. Black ice and flash flooding are all unexpected obstacles a driver will have to be prepared for when setting out on a journey, so its important to check the weather report if you suspect harsh roadconditions.

Poor Road Design - Government liability can be called upon when confusing, poorly placed signs, barriers, road works or traffic signals are a contributing factor to a road traffic accident. These can lead to drivers no being familiar with a change in road design and coupled with possible poor driving conditions lead to vehicle collisions and personal injuries.

Roadworthy Vehicles- A road traffic accident can be caused by a vehicle not being road worthy. Factors such as poor tyres, brakes failing, electrical failure and similar defects can all cause a driver to become involved in an accident. A manufacturing defect, design failure or similar vehicle factory problem can also be a contributing factor.

Why Should You Buy Travel Insurance When You Go Away?

Are you someone who likes to travel? If you are, you are certainly not alone. The travel industry is booming with people wanting to see the world and that presents a wonderful question: Should I buy travel insurance when I go away?

This is a good question because many feel it is necessary and many feel that it is not. However, it is certainly a misconception that nothing can go wrong on a trip. Although you may be one of those who have yet to experience serious trouble while on a trip doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. That is why travel insurance exists. It has a tendency to make things a little less painful if something does go wrong.

Let’s say that your flight has been canceled, what does travel insurance usually cover?

• Termination of employment
• Weather conditions
• Terrorist acts
• Injury, sickness, or death
• Travel delay
• Trip cancellation
• Medical protection
• Baggage protection
• 24-hour emergency assistance

Some of these things may not necessarily be considered a disaster, but could still result in lost money. The cost of travel insurance, depending on age and the amount of coverage desired, is approximately 5% to 8% of the trip cost, which can actually save money if any of these events occur. A lot of money is invested in trips, so this is a small cost to pay for peace of mind and for protection in case one of the above events in the list does occur.

However, different policies offer different types of coverage and there are various exclusions within the policies. Such exclusions include changing your mind about a trip and not going. Travel insurance only covers you when something happens outside of your control that prevents you from making the trip. Not being able to afford the trip doesn’t count. It is when you make a good faith effort to make the trip and something occurs that prevents that from happening that the coverage kicks in.

As far as exclusions, there are a few things to consider such as:

In the case of an injury while on a trip, the “Medical evacuation” section of the policies means that you will be air lifted out of an area with poor medical care and taken back to the states to receive medical attention. These instances are quite rare, but they do happen. However, a Medical evacuation may be denied if a pre-existing condition is involved, if there is a hospital closer that can administer proper medical attention, and an examination may be required to determine the seriousness of the condition and whether or not it requires a medical evacuation. If the situation is bad enough, then you will be evacuated to receive medical attention granted that none of the exclusions apply.

Even if medical plans you currently have cover you when you’re traveling, many medical and other insurance plans will not cover you if you travel abroad. However, it is important to shop around for policies to see what their exclusions are and if their exclusions could knowingly affect you if a situation did arise.

Nevertheless, 5% to 8% of the trip cost is a small price to pay for security and for the protection of money invested in a trip that may not happen due to circumstances outside of your control. It is also good to know that if you were to become sick or injured on a trip, you have some kind of coverage that will take care of you, which gives you one less thing to worry about while you are far from home.

Travel Insurance Tips

Don't Lose Site Of The Sites
Going overseas on a big international trip is almost like a kid walking into a giant toy store. There's so much to see the brain overloads and you don't remember what you came in there for in the first place. The last thing you want to do is fly hundreds of miles there and back without seeing what you wanted to see. The best thing you can do is make a list before you leave.

Travel Assistance Programs and Plans
Deciding what travel insurance to buy, and for how much, can be a daunting process. Here are some factors to consider: Primary elements of travel insurance include trip cancellation insurance, trip interruption insurance, accidental death or dismemberment, medical/dental coverage, transportation to adequate medical facilities, loss of luggage or personal possessions, and protection against the default or bankruptcy of suppliers.

Presenting Presents At Customs
We can never truly leave the world behind when we go away. Especially when the trip starts winding down. One of the main things that pops into our heads is thinking about the gifts we have to get everyone. Before you buy just remember that you are allowed $200 worth of items -- duty free.

Legal Search & Seizure
It is true that in our country we are guaranteed certain rights as Americans. When it comes search & seizure the laws state that there must be probable cause & paperwork before anyone can be searched. However, that all goes out the window when you are dealing with US customs regulations. Custom agents have a right to do a total search without needing any probable cause.

Be Active About Finding Terrorist Activity
In this day and age no one is a stranger to terrorist acts. Unfortunately, it has been happening more than ever these past handful of years. This does not mean you should give into the fear and stop traveling. It just means when you plan a trip you should be smart about it.

Don't Be E-Oblivious
The way the bags are designed you know right away they are holding those tech toys. Which makes it super easy for some less-than-honest individual to know what they should grab first. The solution is simple -- change your bag. Use an unassuming tote bag for cameras and any other electronic equipment. Plus, don't keep stuff like memory cards in the outside pockets to prevent easy pickings from pick-pocketers.

Play Your Cards Right
Sometimes you can find trip and travel insurance where you least expect it. Your credit card. Some credit card companies offer insurance that can guard against lost or stolen luggage. Medical assistance. 24 information. Plus, customized policies depending on how much you travel per year.

Getting Out In The Golden Years
Some people save their traveling for the moment right after they slice their cake at their retirement party. The one thing that's great about traveling when you're retired is you don't have to wait for a vacation to go. So you can say goodbye to high season travel prices. Though, remember traveling isn't just a vacation -- it's a bit of work too.

Airplane Ticket Protection Policies
Today, most airlines are issuing only nonrefundable tickets. Travelers who must cancel or change travel plans are forced to forfeit the cost of the ticket or incur hefty change fees. With Travel Guard's Air Ticket Protection Plan, you are covered. The Air Ticket Protection Plan covers against unexpected trip related expenses such as: • Trip cancellation, interruption and delay; • Lost, stolen or damaged baggage or travel documents; • Pre-Existing Medical Condition Waiver; • Flight Accident; • Baggage Delay; • Ticket Change fees (up to $100 if purchased within 7 days of deposit and for a covered reason).

Bank On Default Insurance
Fine print can land you in a fine mess if you're not careful. It happens all the time with warrantees. People don't realize that if their super-expensive tv goes on the fritz a certain way they will be responsible for all of the costs. It's the same with trip insurance. It does cover a lot of things that could happen. However, bankruptcy of an airline, cruise line or tour-company isn't one of them. So if this is a concern for you look for a policy that contains supplier default insurance. Though, even if it is on your policy you still need to read the fine print. In some cases supplier default insurance will only insure certain travel companies.

1st Class Space Without The 1st Class Cost
People in 1st class get a lot of conveniences coach people don't. Drinks when you 1st arrive on the plane. Priority boarding and leaving. Plus, most important of all -- space. Lots of room to stretch out.

How Important Travel Insurance

Before leaving on vacation, make sure you have adequate insurance. Vacations can sometimes cost thousands of dollars so it is important to have the proper insurance protection in case the cruise or tour operator goes bankrupt or you need to cancel the trip due to illness or other unforeseen events.

There are four major types of travel insurance, although you can also purchase packages that offer several options, including Trip Cancellation, Lost Baggage, Medical, Dental, Emergency Evacuation, 24 Hour Traveler Assistance, Baggage Delay, Travel Delay, and Accidental Death Coverages. Some policies also have options for Collision/Damage coverage for rented cars.

1. Trip Cancellation Insurance
2. Baggage Insurance or Personal Effects Coverage
3. Emergency Medical Assistance
4. Accidental Death

Your credit card company may provide travel-related services and coverage. You can also purchase travel insurance from either a travel agent or you can buy directly from an insurer that specializes in this type of coverage.
